TAI’s Progress Report, covering July 2025 to June 2026, takes stock of the first year of implementation of its new strategic framework. Rather than documenting every activity, the report focuses on what is beginning to change across funder strategies, funding practices, and the wider philanthropic ecosystem. It examines how TAI’s spaces for learning, collaboration, advice, and knowledge-sharing are contributing to changes in how funders understand and support participatory governance.
The report also looks at progress across TAI’s four interconnected strategic priorities: reinvigorating democratic and civic space, building fiscal funding infrastructure, strengthening climate accountability, and resourcing civil society. Alongside the results, it reflects on the wider context in which this work is taking place and the lessons emerging for TAI as it continues to advance its Theory of Change.

Executive Summary
The Executive Summary offers a shorter route into the key findings of TAI’s 2026 Progress Report. It brings together the main results from the year, from TAI’s reach and engagement to what funders are learning through its activities and how that learning is beginning to influence their work. In 2026, TAI engaged 927 individual participants representing 474 institutions, while delivering learning calls, in-person convenings, publications, learning groups, and direct advice to funders.
It also explores the early evidence of change across the three areas at the centre of TAI’s Theory of Change: strengthening funder strategies, evolving funder practices, and expanding the funder ecosystem. The findings show how learning is translating into changes in funding strategies and practices, as well as greater coordination, collaboration, and advocacy among funders. Together, these findings offer a snapshot of where TAI is seeing progress, what it is learning, and where the work is heading next.
